ABOUT US

OUR STORY

We are part of a larger family called the California Northwest Jurisdiction. Bishop W.W. Hamilton is our Jurisdictional Prelate and Mother Mary Madeline Welch is Jurisdictional Supervisor of Women. The Supt. W. L. Bains (deceased) and Missionary Mary C. Bains founded St. Samuel Church in 1966. The present building was completed in 1972. Our belief is that the people are the church, and our people are happy and giving folks who come from all over the world.

Elder Paul J. Bains has been our senior pastor since 1998. He was ordained an elder in Saint Samuel Church of God in Christ in 1993. He is married to Evangelist Cheryl Bains who co-ministers with Pastor Paul and they have three young and very special daughters. The Church Of God In Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) is a Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in which the word of God is preached, ordinances are administered and the doctrine of sanctification or holiness is emphasized, as being essential to the salvation of mankind. Our Church is commonly known as being Holiness or Pentecostal in nature because of the importance ascribed to the events which occurred on the Day of Pentecost, the 50th day after the Passover, or Easter as being necessary for all believers in Christ Jesus to experience.

Our Church is also considered to be a member of the great Protestant body though it did not directly evolve from the European or English Reformation but had its origin within the General Association to the Baptist Church.

Elder Charles Harrison Mason, who later became the founder and organizer of the Church of God in Christ, was born September 8, 1866, on the Prior Farm near Memphis, Tennessee.

We are a Family of Believers

Benefits of a good church

The benefits of a good church cannot really be measured. But the tangible evidence is enough to convince us--a good church is worth the search and commitment.

Among the benefits a good church can provide are:

  • Finding God and His will - In the context of the church, we find that with God, all of life becomes meaningful and we can get assurance for life here and eternally.

  • Inner Peace and Strength - Most everyone wants to be better than they are, and know if they are going to make it, the need a greater power of their own. In church, they learn to find that Power in God, and encouragement from other believers. They derive peace to fill the emptiness of their lives.

  • Friendship - The church provides friendship and a sense of belonging, both of which are vital for mental and emotional health.

  • Improved Family Life - The church helps strengthen family life. Ask a family who attends regularly.

  • Personal Care - A person who regularly attends church knows the value of the care, concern, and support of our members.

Our Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE

We believe the Bible to be inspired and the only infallible written word of God.

We believe that there is ONE God, eternally existent in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Blessed Hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ, at His return.

We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance, faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ and being baptized in water.

We believe the regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.

We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing prayer.

We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4 is given to any believer who asks for it.

We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose dwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in this present world.
